Regular volunteering

Do you care about the world around you, and want to do something to make a difference?

Do you want to work in the environmental sector, but lack the experience to land your first job?

Do you want to share your passion for the environment with the next generation?

If so, then a Volunteer Officer position at
Skelton Grange could be just the thing!  You Helping a child to pond dipcould spend your time learning to teach children about the world around them, and trying your hand at a variety of practical conservation skills.  You will gain excellent work experience that will be valued by employers, develop a whole range of transferable skills, take part in a comprehensive training programme, and best of all join a friendly and supportive staff and volunteer team in a green oasis hidden away in South Leeds.

We are looking for volunteers who can commit to four days per week (Tuesday to Friday), ideally for six months or more (we can be flexible about the length of time). You don't need experience, just enthusiasm and the desire to work with children.

We can offer you:

  • A designated manager with monthly updates to support you in your role
  • Full Volunteer Officer role description
  • Full training programme including working with children, first aid, health and safety and risk assessment
  • Excellent work experience to help you land that job in the environmental sector
  • Travel and lunch expenses

Previous volunteers have gone onto work for organisations such as Groundwork Leeds, RSPB, Bradford Community Environment Project, Envision Leeds, Leeds City Council, BTCV and primary schools.

We are not currently recruiting for Volunteer Officers, but keep checking back as we do recruit regularly! If you'd like to join the Skelton Email List we can keep in touch with you about VO recruitment opportunities, volunteering days and other events that you can get involved in - just email us and ask to be added to the email list.

BTCV is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. References for prospective volunteers will be followed up and an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check will be carried out before volunteering opportunities begin.
