INSET training for teachers at Skelton Grange
Making the most of your school garden - Growing Vegetables, Learning and Playing in the Natural Environment
This course combines a morning learning how to grow vegetables with children, with an afternoon of environmental games and activities.
The course is for those who work with 3 - 11 year olds in primary schools, children's centres and nurseries and who want to develop their vegetable garden and outdoor learning opportunities. We look at what to grow to fit in with the school year, different plants for different ages, simple crop rotation and how to sow seeds and nurture plants from seedling to productivity!!
The afternoon then introduces games and activities that can deliver and complement many areas of the EYFS and National Curriculum, focusing on hands on activities that encourage children to have fun outdoors, whilst exploring and making sense of the natural world, encouraging empathy with the plants and animals around us. We run two parallel sessions, one for Early Years and KS1 staff and the other for KS2 staff so you can learn games and activities that are most useful for your age group.
For more information, take a look at the course flyer (pdf format, 196k).
If you would like to book this course for your whole school staff, you can. We can run it here at Skelton or in your grounds. Cost £600 per school.
