Opportunities for Childminders at Skelton Grange Environment Centre

Skelton Grange Environment Centre is a lovely environmental education centre based in South Leeds. We work with people of all ages to engage them with the wonder of the natural world and inspire them make a positive difference to their community and local environment. The centre is set in a wildlife area with ponds, meadows, woodland, an allotment and sensory gardens. Most of the time we run organised activities for nurseries and primary school children with the schools but following requests from childminders we have decided to offer the following opportunities suitable for childminders and their children.

If you wish to discuss anything about any of the activities below feel free to call Helen on 0113 2430815. Directions to the centre can be found here.

Winter craft workshops - In the weeks leading up to Christmas we are offering half day winter craft workshops (Tuesday - Thursday), led by Skelton staff and volunteers. You can do a morning or afternoon to suit you. Booking is essential. Please call the centre for availability and further details.

Monday drop in at Skelton Grange - On the first Monday every month (excluding bank holidays) the centre will be open at 10 O'clock for self led activities. You can borrow our pond dipping and minbeast hunting kit if you want, take the children for a welly wander, or do some other activities from our childminders resource box. The centre is available for toilets and a covered space if you want to come inside for a bit and read a story or have your lunch. Please call the centre to let us know if you are planning to visit!

For both of the activities above we don't charge but do appreciate a donation to go towards the running costs of the centre.

Also if you would like to join up with other childminders and come in a bigger group, that would be fine.

Exploring outside (games and activities training for childminders) - Would you like to learn a few more games and activities, for groups of mixed age children that will help them explore the natural world? The activities are suitable for whilst the children play in the yard/garden, walk to and from school, or walk in the woods and the park. This training course will run on a Saturday morning in the spring and costs £25 per person.
