Kids have being going ‘Wild in the Woods’ this half term at Skelton Grange Environment Centre, taking part in a day packed with bushcraft and environmental activities.

The children spent the whole day outdoors in the Centre’s woodland developing their bushcraft skills and environmental knowledge.  They made waterproof shelters where they could eat their lunch, sawed up branches to make wooden name medallions, brewed up some freshly-picked herbal tea, and finished up with a blazing campfire to cook their popcorn on!

“This was a fantastic opportunity for kids to learn new skills, make new friends and spend the whole day outside in the woods”, said BTCV Project Officer Amy Wright.  “It was a really popular day, so we’ll definitely be running it again next half term”.

Emily Crossley, age 7, who took part in the day said “Bushcraft was brilliant!  My favourite thing was eating the popcorn we cooked on the fire”.

Skelton Grange Environment Centre is an innovative environmental education project near Hunslet in South Leeds, which is a partnership between BTCV and National Grid with support from Leeds City Council. It offers a range of fun, hands-on environmental education activities for schoolchildren which aim to encourage an interest in the natural world.
