Every year, thousands of children visit the centre to learn about their environment in a fun and unique setting and are shown an excellent example of how to reuse energy, with the centre’s use of solar panels and recycled rain water. The building which was designed for BTCV by LEDA – Leeds Environmental Design Associates - was funded by the Big Lottery, Biffaward, National Grid, Green Leeds, WREN/Yorkshire Water and the Energy Savings Trust.
Centre managers Caroline Crossley and Lucy Wheeler said,
“We’re really pleased that the Centre has been highly commended by the Civic Trust. We believe that the shortlisting helps reinforce LEDA’s place in the vanguard of environmental design. It also highlights the value of partnerships such as that between BTCV and National Grid in enabling projects like this to be brought to the community”
