Volunteers have been getting their hands dirty by taking part in a range of practical conservation tasks at Skelton Grange Environment Centre, and new faces are always welcome!

Recent work has included looking after the Centre's ponds and hedgerows, putting up new fencing and caring for the 750 new trees that have been planted over the last year, in the hope of creating a new wildlife-friendly woodland.  Work has been funded through the Landfill Communities of Waste Recycling Group (WRG), administered and distributed by Waste Recycling Environmental (WREN).  The Landfill Communities Fund (LCF) currently enables landfill operators to divert a proportion of their annual landfill tax liability to environmental bodies.

Sunday 26th April sees another opportunity for everyone to get their gardening gloves on and lend a hand - a community volunteering day will be running from 11am til 4pm, and will involve a variety of tasks including developing a sensory garden area for visiting schoolchildren to explore.  All are welcome, and no need to book - just turn up on the day.

Skelton Grange Environment Centre is an innovative environmental education project in South Leeds, which is a partnership between BTCV and National Grid with support from Leeds City Council. It offers a range of fun, hands-on environmental education activities for schoolchildren which aim to encourage an interest in the natural world.
