Leeds local businesses have been doing their bit for the environment, with staff taking a break from the routine by volunteering for a day at Skelton Grange Environment Centre in South Leeds.
The environmental education centre has recently hosted a series of employee action events, where hard-working volunteers have carried out a range of tasks to improve the centre.
A team from Masterfoods built new raised vegetable beds to demonstrate to children where their vegetables come from. Meanwhile, contractors from Arup, Lang O'Rourke, Black & Veatch and Yorkshire Water took a break from their work at the Knostrop Water Treatment works site to help to create new footpaths and a storytelling area, providing new, exciting education and play opportunities at the centre.
"These employee action events have been a great opportunity for people to do something a bit different, learn some new skills and help the environment", said Project Officer Toby Roberts. "Local businesses also really benefit from the team-building that takes place when everyone is working together on a task."
Skelton Grange Environment Centre is an innovative environmental education project in South Leeds, which is a partnership between BTCV and National Grid with support from Leeds City Council. It offers a range of fun, hands-on environmental education activities for schoolchildren which aim to encourage an interest in the natural world.
