Hundreds of people basked in the summer sunshine at Skelton Grange Environment Centre’s Open Day on Saturday 9th June. The environmental education centre opened its doors to visitors of all ages who enjoyed woodland storytelling, face painting, drumming circles, and exploring the Centre’s beautiful wildlife areas by following a nature trail.
Skelton Grange Environment Centre is an innovative environmental education project in South Leeds, which is run by BTCV in partnership with National Grid and Leeds City Council. The centre works mostly with primary schools and playschemes, running interactive, active, hands on activities to get children involved in the natural environment.
The open day was a great success, with the huge variety of home-made cakes in the cafe, containing organic and fair trade products where possible, proving very popular! Children also enjoyed getting creative by painting pebbles, taking part in a felt-making workshops, and were fascinated by the display of pedal-powered woodwork. The ‘Friends of Skelton Grange’ volunteer group are grateful for the support of the Leeds City Council Inner South Area Committee, who helped to fund the event.
