Fairy trails, blind rope mazes, meadow minibeast hunts and villages of stone people were just some of the activities being run by Skelton Grange Environment Centre last week, to help families to explore their Local Nature Reserves. The days were part of a wider programme of Leeds City Council funded events occurring throughout Leeds in order to join a two-week nation-wide celebration of Local Nature Reserves.
Skelton Grange staff and volunteers ran drop-in sessions and environmental activities at the Letchmire Pastures Nature Reserve in Allerton Bywater on Tuesday 25th of July and at Townclose Hills Nature Reserve (also known as Billy Woods) in Kippax on Saturday 29th July.   Skelton Grange Environment Centre is managed by BTCV in partnership with National Grid, with support from Leeds City Council, and offers the opportunity for children to experience 'hands-on' learning about the environment and its wildlife.

"It's great to see people really enjoying the natural space in the nature reserves. The children all had a great time and hopefully they will come back and enjoy the Local Nature Reserves again on another day!" said Toby Roberts, Skelton's Project Officer. Wildlife Club Volunteer Officer, Cathy Spence, enthused, "Letchmire Pastures is a fantastic wild space and the day was great exploring the wildlife there with the children."
